FREE LECTURE: When Margery Met Julian: Writing Visionary Women Back into History
I am so honoured to be a part of the Julian 650 Lecture Series, sponsored by the Friends of Julian of Norwich, to celebrate the 650th anniversary of Julian’s shewings, her searing visions that inspired her book Revelations of Divine Love. In my talk, I will reveal how Julian of Norwich and Margery Kempe, her contemporary, were mystics and literary pioneers who were nearly erased from history. Their face-to-face encounter in 1413, immortalized in The Book of Margery Kempe, is a fascinating glimpse into medieval sisterhood and solidarity. I will discuss how my research inspired me to showcase Julian and Margery in my novel Revelations.
